* Da AndreaDa Andrea

Time: 18:00

There aren’t as many really good Italian restaurants in Manhattan as there used to be, at least not for the prices at Da Andrea (35 West 13th Street; 212-367-1979; http://biassanot.com/), which rates a Critic’s Pick (and only two dollar signs) from the New York Times. We were here last May and everyone thought it was good; the pasta is made fresh daily, and Sam Sifton also likes the tigelle, warm biscuits with prosciutto and parmesan; salads of octopus or grilled baby squid; or the beef carpaccio appetizer. The couple who own the joint are from Bologna, so high on the list of pastas is the “wonderfully rich, meaty” bolognese, as well as the ravioli with veal, prosciutto and mushrooms; the lamb shank is both inexpensive and “terrific.” The biscotti meet with Mr. Sifton’s approval, but not the tiramisù (“by the book”) or the napoleon crème brûlee (“singed”). But the limoncello is homemade and the prices are right. We’re expecting a crowd, so be there at six and talk to Bob Nelson: by e-mail at fastnfab (at) yahoo (dot) com or by text at 212-567-7160.

* Beginners to NyackBeginners to Nyack

Time: 09:00

This is a pull-the-cobwebs from your spokes, get that chain cleaned and lubed, pump up the tires and hit the road kinda ride. We’re meeting out front at 689 Fort Washington Avenue, which is to be found on the northwest corner of West 190th St.; it’s the address of Patrick Guilfoyle, who will co-lead this ride up to Nyack for lunch, and possibly a macaron or two, at the Patisserie Didier Dumas; then, on a full stomach, back to Manhattan. Those who are comforted by the accompaniment of a cue sheet should download same from http://fastnfab.org/cue-sheet-nyack-front-and-back. We’ll deal with various issues of bike fit, pedals, shoes and spiffying up our rides at Patrick’s, then hit the road. Bring those buns, both of ‘em, to said location at 9 a.m. with the Nyack departure to follow shortly. Home by two, unless you want to adventure farther north from Nyack. We burn no rubber today and drop no riders. Bob Nelson, fastnfab (at) gmail (dot) com, or 212-567-7160, text away.
