Three Bridges, Three Islands and a Donut

By Lori G.

"A great urban adventure type ride!" On Saturday July 18: John Chapman, two other current Fast and Fabbers and three newbies enjoyed the Three Bridges, Three Islands and a Doughnut ride. They met at the Manhattan entrance to the Queensboro Bridge on First Avenue and 60th Street. From there they rode over the bridge to Queens, meandering a bit from the published route in order to take in the Socrates Sculpture Garden in Queens and to visit a new park along the river in Williamsburg. Then over the Williamsburg Bridge, back into Manhattan, and then over the Manhattan Bridge back to Brooklyn. The views from the bridges were fabulous! They then took a short ride to Empire Fulton Ferry Park under the Brooklyn Bridge to catch the ferry to Governors Island, where they did some exploring. The line to get on the ferry from Brooklyn to Governor's Island was really long, but they had sandwiches and ice cream while waiting and managed to get on the next boat. Finally, they took the ferry back to Manhattan and ended at The Doughnut Plant (Grand St. between Essex and Norfolk) for a homemade jelly doughnut. It was a very fabulous, not very fast ride of about 20 miles.
